I'm Maddie, the founder of inhousew. I sat the first ever SQE2 in April 2022 and I've been working with SQE2 candidates ever since. I've spent significant time training this tool to mark the way I'd mark — including how strict or lenient to be, what to praise, what to penalise, and how to phrase feedback constructively rather than demoralisingly.
You provide the question, your answer, and the sample answer. The tool compares your answer against the sample point by point, rather than against an imagined ideal. This means feedback is grounded in what the SRA actually expects, not what an AI thinks legal writing should look like.
Procedural errors, off-topic content, missing legal avenues, terminological imprecision, strategic missteps. Things that other tools — and a lot of self-marking — may miss.
You can run up to 10 markings per day. For most candidates that’s plenty — you’ll find you use the tool most heavily in the weeks running up to your sitting.
Monthly: £20 per month — with a 3-day free trial
Weekly: £8 per week — with a 1-day free trial
Both include cancel-any-time, and you keep access until the end of your current billing period.
Which should you pick?
Monthly is the best value if you’re preparing over several weeks or months.
Weekly is ideal if your exam is close and you only need short-term access.

I want to be upfront about this. The SQE2 Marking Buddy is an AI tool. It’s good — better than generic AI marking, better than self-marking, and significantly cheaper than human marking. But it’s still an AI.
That means:
Use it alongside your own judgement and your study materials. It’s at its most powerful when treated as a thinking partner that surfaces things to look at — not as an oracle that tells you the final answer.
This is also why it’s £8 a week or £20 a month, rather than £100 an hour. You’re paying for a useful study tool, not a personal tutor.

10 per day. The limit resets on a rolling 24-hour basis.
The assessment type, the question, your answer, and the sample answer from your study materials. The sample answer is essential — the tool uses it as the gold standard for comparison.
Yes, both the weekly and monthly subscription have a free trial built in. You can try the weekly for 1 day for free, and the monthly for 3 days for free. Be sure to cancel during the trial period to avoid billing.

No. The SQE2 Marking Buddy is an independent study tool built by inhousew. It's not officially endorsed by the SRA and shouldn't be treated as official SQE2 marking. Always use your own judgement and refer to official SRA guidance.
Generic AI tools give generic legal feedback. The Marking Buddy is calibrated to my specific marking style and compares your answer directly against the sample answer for your question.
The tool occasionally misses things or is over-strict on certain points. If you spot something you genuinely think is wrong, email me at madeleine@inhousew.com — real feedback helps me improve the tool.
Each subscription is for a single user. Your study partner should buy their own access.
